Honor Magic V5 Folding Phone

The Vivo X Fold5 did not manage to dethrone the Oppo Find N5 as the thinnest foldable, which it has snatched from Magic V3. But guess what? Honor has taken back what had been taken from them with the new standard in thin foldables: the Honor Magic V5.

Now, you may be wondering if there has been a skip in the time-space continuum because, logically speaking, this year’s Magic V series should be V4. You’d be right—except it isn’t the case. Honor has, for some reason unknown to us, skipped 4 and gone straight to 5 [CH]. Nobody online actually discusses this, but anyways, so yeah, there is a new king of thin in town.

With a body length of 156.8 mm by 74.3 mm when folded, or 145.9 mm when opened, the new V5 is not much different from its competition—except that it shaved 0.x mm off the profile. It is just 8.8 mm thin when folded, and opens up to a ridiculous 4.1 mm thin. But that’s just for the white model. Other colors (which are of other material) are 9 mm closed and 4.2 mm opened.

Also, that is just the main body thinness—not including the pretty imposing camera bump that is home to a tri-camera setup, dubbed Honor AI Eagle Eye Camera, that comprises a 50 MP wide-angle f/1.6 aperture camera, a 50 MP super wide-angle f/2.0 aperture camera, and a 64 MP periscope telephoto f/2.5 aperture camera. The latter supports laser focus and is bolstered by a color temperature sensor. It can do 3x optical zoom and, you guessed it, 100x digital zoom.

As with foldables of this nature, it has two front-facing cameras. Each hole-punch camera is a 20 MP wide-angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture.

Under the hood, it benefits from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Edition Mobile Platform—a 3 nm process SoC, featuring an octa-core processor (2× Prime 4.32 GHz + 6× Performance 3.53 GHz) and Adreno 830 GPU. There’s no mention of the RAM type and storage version, though.

It has a 120 Hz 8T LTPO 6.43-inch display that opens up to reveal a 7.95” display, also a 120 Hz 8T LTPO display. Both displays rock 5,000 nits of peak brightness, 1.07 billion colors, 4,320 Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut. Visuals are bolstered by ZREAL, Dolby Vision, as well as HDR Vivid.

As far as folding goes, the main display features reinforced carbon fiber lining that serves as a soft armor inside. It is flexible yet strong, capable of sustaining 380 GPa resistance to deformation. Meanwhile, Honor’s Luban shock-absorbing hinge offers strong support, allowing for repeated opening and closing—or up to 500,000 times, to be precise. This latest version hinge features a shaft that has increased resistance to impact.

That’s not it for durability; there is the double aerospace fiber lamination technology, and the new generation King Kong glass. And it is IP58 and IP50 rated for water and dust resistance.

This device may be super thin, but it does not skimp on battery capacity. Thanks to the Qinghaihu blade battery, it packs a beefy 6,100 mAh battery that supports 66 W wired charging and 50 W wireless charging.

There is, of course, AI. Honor has incorporated DeepSeek to help with productivity and more. AI is also used to help alleviate motion sickness when using the device on a moving vehicle.

Rounding out the key features is none other than satellite communications.

The Honor Magic V5 has been launched in China with a starting price of 8,999 yuan [CH] (~1,256 USD). It is offered in 12+256, 16+512, and 16+1 TB configurations, and four colors.
