Oppo Find N5 Folding Smartphone

Samsung has no interest in competing for the title of the thinnest folding smartphone. I mean, look at its foldables—they barely shaved any thickness over the years. So, it’s down to Chinese brands to make foldable phones actually practical i.e. thin and light. Speaking of which, Honor Magic V3 has officially been dethroned as the world’s thinnest. The new king? Oppo Find N5. And it’s not just thin—the hinge is ridiculously strong too. But being super tough is kind of Oppo’s thing.

Anyways, this ultra-slim foldable [CH] measures just 8.93 mm when closed and a jaw-dropping 4.21 mm when open. That’s about the thickness of a stack of business cards. It’s got a 6.62-inch cover display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a blinding 2,450 nits of brightness. Flip it open, and you’re greeted by a spacious 8.12-inch inner screen—also 120 Hz—perfect for multitasking or pretending you’re productive.

Before lifting the hood, let’s talk toughness. When it comes to folding smartphones, they have many more potential points of failure than regular smartphones. But this is not just another folding-screen smartphone. The Find N5 rewrites the rulebook of survivability. For starter, it is IPX6, IPX8, AND IPX9 rated, so water and dust will never intimate it. Then there’s the titanium alloy hinge which is both light, thin, and ridiculously strong.

Ultra-thin 3D-printed titanium alloy material reduces hinge thickness by 26% and increases rigidity by 36%. The thinnest part of the wing structure is only about 0.15 mm, which is thinner and stronger. Oppo said the material strength is increased by around 2,200 MPa, while wear resistance is boosted to approximately 20 times.

And then there’s the UTG ultra-tough glass that has an impact and bending resistance of 130%—all while promising minimum fold lines. These elements, including a super tough frame, enable it to sustain the weight of a person hanging under it at the hinge. One of Oppo’s product managers, Monica, threw her weight around to test the hinge and it not only survived but Find N5s remained functional.

Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor keeps things running smoothly, whether you’re gaming, scrolling, or opening 27 apps at once. A hefty 5,600 mAh battery ensures all-day power, with 80W wired and 50W wireless charging. Meanwhile, a titanium alloy hinge and nanocrystal glass mean it won’t snap in half like a wafer.

And, of course, Oppo packed in serious camera tech with the help of professional camera maker Hasselblad. The rear camera setup features a 50MP Sony LYT-700 sensor with OIS (21 mm equivalent), a 50MP Samsung JN5 periscope lens with 3x optical zoom, and an 8MP ultra-wide lens with autofocus. The front-facing cameras? Both the inner and cover screens sport 8MP shooters with a 91° field of view. The rear cameras shoot 4K at up to 60fps, while the front cameras handle 4K at 30fps—because nothing says luxury like recording your cat in ultra HD.

The Oppo Find N5: sleek, powerful, and so thin it might just slip between the couch cushions. The new Oppo Find N5 is offered in 12 GB + 256 GB, 16 GB + 512 GB, and 16 GB + 1 TB Satellite Messaging Edition. The asking price is a pretty reasonable 8,999 yuan-10,999 yuan [CH] (which is about 1,235 USD-1,510 USD based on the current going rate).
