There’s no lacking of robot vacuum cleaner in the market, but as consumers, we certainly don’t mind yet another. You know, a healthy dose of competition is always to the benefit of consumers. Speaking of which, China’s Roborock has brought its flagship robot vacuum cleaner introduced last month, simply known as S6, to the U.S. market.
So, will it give the reigning king of robot vacuum cleaner, iRobot, a run of its money? Well, looking at the features and the asking price, maybe not quite. But more the latter. Right of the bat, the design is quite a sight to behold. It is aesthetically pleasing enough for it to be recognized for design excellence by iF Design Awards. Roborock S6 boasts a maximum fan speed of 1,500 rpm, creating a suction force of 2,000 Pa that is strong enough to lift AA batteries off the floor.
But it don’t go around sucking like a moronic machine; it only unleash maximum suction power when it needs to, like when it get onto a carpeted area, for example. And it does so automatically without human intervention and while it is at it, it remains quiet. We do not know how quiet, but we hear that it is 50 percent quieter over its predecessor.
In addition, it packs an array of sensors like accelerometer, odometer, IR, cliff sensor, compass and more. I am particularly sold by the the onboard laser rangefinder that scans the room at a dizzy 300 rpm to create a map of your home which you can then utilize to schedule cleaning for specific room(s) and even drop virtual barriers.
Other highlights include intelligent routing algorithms, ability to schedule room-specific cleans and set exclusionary zones via app, automatic room recognition, automatically recharges and picks up where it left off after charging, a newly designed detachable main brush, hair-cutting cleaning tool for removal of stubborn hair, cable tidy built into charging dock to keep access cable hidden, 5,200 mAh lithium-ion battery good for up to 3 hours of run time in quiet mode, mopping function, and voice-controllable with Amazon Alexa and Google Home.
Roborock S6 Robot Vacuum Cleaner is available in stateside, but at $649, it is not exactly cheap. However, for a limited time, U.S. customers can pick up one at a promotional price of $599 via eBay. Keep going for the product promo video.
