In today’s what is going on in the world of TV… Samsung has unveiled a 110-inch MicroLED TV in Korea. The evolution of TV has come a long way. From humble beginning of CRT, it has evolved to Plasma to fluorescent-based LCD, and then to LED technology.
MicroLED is set to be the next hype in display technology. Because it is inorganic like OLED and self-illuminating, it should have significantly longer lifespan (Samsung said up to 100,000 hours, or over 10 years) and for cinephile, this also means perfect black and incredible color vibrancy and brightness.
For bezel-haters, you will glad that this TV has an astounding 99.99 percent screen-to-body ratio. In other words, it has virtually no bezel.
MicroLED is not new though. Samsung’s first MicroLED display was introduced two years ago in the form of “The Wall”, a system of configurable modules for professional use.
With the 110-inch MicroLED, however, Samsung bring this technology in traditional TV form for any consumer who can afford it. Speaking of which, price is not revealed yet. Though it is definitely going to cost more than any of current Samsung’s offerings.
Here’s a summary of what the 110-inch MicroLED TV has to offer:
“Ultra-large screen enthusiasts want excellent picture quality with vibrant colors and stunning resolution. With Samsung’s latest engineering innovations, the 110’’ MicroLED uses micrometer-sized LED lights to eliminate the backlight and color filters utilized in conventional displays. Instead, it is self-illuminating—producing light and color from its own pixel structures. It expresses 100% of the DCI and Adobe RGB color gamut, and accurately delivers wide color gamut images taken with high-end DSLR cameras. This results in stunning, lifelike colors and accurate brightness from the display’s 4K resolution and 8 million pixels.”
In addition, there is the Micro AI Processor for outputting 4K HDR content. The TV is a Smart TV and offers extra features like Multi View that allows for four sources of content to be view all at the same time, on up to 55-inch sized split screens.
Finally, the Samsung 110-inch 4K MicroLED TV also features dynamic audio experience made possible by an embedded “Majestic Sound System” that promised to deliver “breathtaking 5.1 channel sound” without external speaker.
The TV was revealed two days ago (December 10, 2020) in Korea and it is set to be available worldwide in Q1 2021.
