Here’s a timepiece for you aliens fanatics out there. Called SD-09, it is a UFO spacecraft-inspired wristwatch that drew its inspiration from the 1997’s Phoenix Lights UFO sighting. So how is it UFO-ish about it? Well, according to the Hong Kong watch maker, it has a “UFO Spacecraft Engine” which is essentially a lumed, spinning second sub-dial. No heat, though, if that’s what you thinking and it whisper quiet like the reported UFOs (and so is every watch, really).

While we can’t agree it has any direct connection to any alien race, the watch does look pretty up there. At glance, you may mistaken it for some expensive timepiece that cost tens of thousands, but obviously, it is not bank-breaker. But more on that later. According to its SD-09 Watches, the dial is also “modeled after a UFO flying through space” and it features a sandwich style dial with Superluminova C3 applied to the base layer of the 9 and 12 indexes, the hour indexes, the secondary markings on the dial ring, as well as the hour and minute hands.

Key notables include a 42 mm 316L stainless steel case with AA-grade PVD plating, Miyota 8218 automatic movement made by Citizen Watch Japan, support for manual winding, date function at 3’o clock, shock absorbing internals, 40-hour power reserve, triple gasket crown with crown protection (very military!), sapphire crystal with anti-reflection coating on top and back, and water resistance to 10ATM (100 meters or 330 feet).

I am not going to lie to myself. It looks nothing like a spacecraft, at least it does not matches my expectation of the little green men’s spacecraft. To be fair, when it is dark and when the superluminova kicks in, it does look like UFO lights which, from the images, it is quite a sight to behold. However, the association pretty much ends there.

Notwithstanding that, it is, like I have said earlier, actually quite a looker. Perhaps, more importantly, it is quite affordable, going for as low as 1,888 Hong Kong dollars (about US$241). Several models are being offered at the product’s Kickstarter campaign and if you are up for it, you want to study the extensive description and images available on Kickstarter.
