It’s no secret that China has been developing its à la B-2 flying wing stealth bomber called H20. However, so many years on, we have yet to have a glimpse of the aircraft – even with the rumor that it may make its maiden flight this year. Well, folks, that changed recently when a building block toy maker, Sembo Block, released a building set of the PLAAF H20 bomber.
Yup. That’s right. The H-20 in the flesh, well, almost. It is not even a coming soon product, by the way. It is an on-the-market product. The Sembo Block PLAAF H20 Stealth Bomber (202197) Building Set, as it is called, is officially licensed by PLAAF which means it is an accurate representation of the upcoming, mysterious Chinese stealth bomber as the PLAAF wants it to be.
The model boasts several gimmicks, including an opening cockpit that can accommodate a minifigure, movable ailerons, an opening bomb bay that can fit the included 4 missiles and two brick-build bombs, and deployable landing gears with rolling wheels.
All told, the set packs 1163+ pieces, and when completed, the model measures a shelf space-devouring 61 cm across, 30 cm long, and 7 cm tall (24 x 11.2 x 2.8 inches) which puts the model around 1:86 scale. Also included in the set are 5 minifigures, including two pilots in flight suits, two air force personnel, and a marshaller.
In case anyone is curious about the specs of China’s H20 Stealth Bomber, it has a top speed of 950 km/h (513 knots, or 590 mph), a ceiling of 25,000 meters (82,000+ feet), a 10,000 km range (6,200+ miles), and it weighs 70 tonnes (15,434 lbs) and has a maximum takeoff weight of 150 tonnes (330,693 lbs).
Anyhoo, the Sembo Block PLAAF H20 Stealth Bomber (202197) Building Set is being sold on China e-commerce websites like Taobao.com for around 116-199 yuan (about US$16-27). Yes. It is that affordable! Sembo Block, by the way, and many building block toy makers in China are not bound like no real-world military hardware policy like LEGO does which is good news for military hardware enthusiasts.
