Ten years ago [in 2016], X-Plus started the Godzilla vs. Evangelion crossover concept based on the theme: What if G-Cells mutated Unit-01? Ten years and several versions later, Tamashii Nations has joined the crossover party with its own iteration of the Evangelion 01 Test Type “G” Awakened Form under the S.H.MonsterArts toyline.

So, how is it different from the X-Plus version? Well, one word: articulation. While the X-Plus version is a vinyl statue, the S.H.MonsterArts Evangelion 01 Test Type “G” Awakened Form by Tamashii Nations is a fully poseable action figure.
It features S.H.MonsterArts’ signature ball-joint articulation throughout the neck, torso, limbs, and long tail, letting you pose it in wild, crouching, or roaring stances. However, it is less imposing than the statue version from the other brand. It is of the standard desk/shelf scale, standing about 15 cm (5.9 inches) tall.
But size is about the only trade-off. Visually, the S.H.MonsterArts version is no less impressive—rightly so, as it was sculpted in collaboration with X-Plus to capture the same design details at an action-figure scale.
Because it is designed to be played with, it comes supplied with a bunch of accessories, including a translucent Atomic Breath/Heat Ray effect part with its own display base and, very thoughtfully, a spare replacement horn.
The S.H.MonsterArts Evangelion 01 Test Type “G” Awakened Form has another boon: it is way more affordable than the fixed-pose giant, at US$160 in the U.S. If anyone’s interested, it is available from Amazon.com under Amazon’s “Savings Pre-order Price Guarantee.” In addition, you can score US$50 off instantly upon approval for an Amazon Visa.
