The main purpose of a tank in any conflict is to provide direct heavy firepower from a reasonable distance to break through enemy lines. Hence, tanks are usually armed with a large-bore main gun to do the job. And you’d expect the same of this machine in a tank-centric video game, too. Well, not in the case of SLAM TANK. So named because the tanks literally slam.
How so? The tanks of this unusual tank video game, though armed with a big gun, have no use for it. Instead, you spin the turret, swing the gun barrel, or simply ram straight into your enemies. That’s right. The goal is to win without firing a single shot, which I doubt the game even allows you to do.
That’s not it. They may be tanks, but you manipulate them as you would in BattleBots or Robot Wars. This game is like a drift game meets an extreme sports game meets Robot Wars meets a melee fighting game. You can race through the battlefield, drifting your armored ride, execute attacks by swinging the turret, or straight-up bash through enemies, pull off ramp jumps, and more.
All told, there are three tanks to choose from, each with a distinct combat style. The goal is to regain control of the world, where the machines have been overtaken by AI. And yes, you also need to ram into machines, sending the CPUs and GPUs flying, to destroy the AI machines.
This game has a bit of a PUBG element in the area of customization. You will be able to place decals and decorate your tank to suit your style. Tactical? What’s that? The tank in this game is not on a Metal Gear Solid mission; it is going in loud and fast.
SLAM TANK is being developed and published by Korean studio Next Stage Inc. It was announced late last month. An official launch date and pricing have not been announced. As of now, it is only destined for PC via Steam.
