Sonos speakers sound great. Aesthetically, they are OK too. OK, I am just saying that because we have no other choice. I mean, seriously, that’s the design and that’s that. We can’t really do anything about it (as with most gadgets, really). Well, as it turns out, you can actually do something about it because of Soundskins. Soundskins are acoustically transparent cover designed specifically for Sonos speaker. In other words, Soundskins are to Sonos speaker as phone cases are to smartphones. Get it, get it? Except that, the main purpose of Soundskins isn’t to protect your Sonos speaker from knocks and bumps; it is to allow it to have the aesthetic that better matches your home decor. I know it sounds a little frivolous. Then again, aren’t most things in life are?
Anyways, Soundskins is founded by Netherlands-based VANMOKUM and designed by Studio Truly Truly, who worked with Netherlands’ TextielMuseum to achieve aesthetically pleasing covers that does not interfere with the sound quality of the speakers. The team even went to the extend of having tests done at Technical University of Eindhoven’s laboratory of acoustics to ensure that skins do not affect the sound. These specially developed 3D united covers are customized to fit each Sonos speaker and when slipped on, it still affords full use of Sonos push and swipe functions.
Soundskins comes in five colors, namely, smoke white, olive green, stone blue, charcoal black and our favorite, copper (perfect for rustic decor!), to suit your interior decor style. So, for the first time, your cosy decor need not to be interrupted by cold, emotion-less gadgets. You probably wish they’d make one for each of your gadgets. You can find Soundskins on Kickstarter where a contribution of €20 or more (around US$24), you can pre-order a piece for February 2018 delivery.
