Folks, this is the new Sony Xperia 10 IV. This time, Sony has shortened the gap between the announcement and the actual availability – even shorter than last year’s Xperia 10 III. The official announcement was May 11 and it will go on sale as soon as mid-June 2022.

Aesthetically, the new Xperia 10 IV looks pretty much like the III but now, it is staking a claim as the world’s lightest 5G smartphone with a 5,000 mAh battery. You know Sony is pushing it when it becomes too specific with the “world’s something, something.”

Or maybe it was just trying to say it is the world’s lightest 5G phone that also has a class-topping 5,000 mAh battery. But wow to the battery which should come in handy when you go crazy shooting videos and taking stills.

Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) comes as standard on this device, along with a bunch of improvements in the imaging department. These include automatic HDR shooting with low illuminance, improved night mode shooting with superior noise reduction, clear digital zoom with super-resolution, and “stunning selfies with AI.”

The new Sony Xperia 10 IV runs on Android 12, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G Mobile Platform backed by 6 GB RAM and 128 GB UFS storage which is further expandable up to a terabyte with a microSDXC card. It is a dual SIM device (nano-SIM + eSIM) and it has retained the tool-free SIM tray, which is Sony’s way of attention to detail.

Fronting the device is a 60 Hz 6.0-inch 21:9 wide FHD+ (2,520 x 1,080 pixels) OLED display featuring a Triluminous display for Mobile. Given how even entry-level phones are getting 120 Hz refresh rate display, we are surprised that Sony is still sticking to the 60 Hz guns. And it’s not cheap, btw. But more on that in a bit.
