BMW has come together with premium trail bike maker SPECIALIZED to introduce a limited-run special edition of the bike maker’s Specialized Turbo Levo called SPECIALIZED for BMW Turbo Levo FSR 6Fattie. No doubt a marketing effort to promote German automaker’s new Sports Activity Vehicle, the new-generation X3, judging from its appearance in the various product images available to the press. Anyways, marketing talks aside, this e-mountain bike is clearly an exquisite, top-end item. Clever integration of the power module into the specially developed aluminum frame gave the bike a clean, regular bike look (but in an uber sleek way, of course).
A 250 watts motor lends this beautiful trail bike powerful pedal assistance while being discretely hidden away and barely audible. The 504 Wh battery deserves a mention too as it features a handy docking mechanism that allows it be detached from the bike so it can be charged separately and with a specially developed charging cable by BMW, this battery pack can also be recharged with the 12V power socket in the boot.
Other noteworthy highlights include the unmistakable chunky (and awesome) 2.8-inch tires, automatically adjustable telescopic seat post, extra-short chain stays, an integral design that promised optimum weight distribution, and a BMW X3-inspired exclusive paint job in Phytonic Blue, plus an eye-catching ‘SPECIALIZED for BMW’ lettering on the chain stays to boot, just so everyone knows this ain’t your ordinary SPECIALIZED bike.
This being 2017, therefore it has an app too. This “purpose-developed” SPECIALIZED Mission Control App isn’t some lame app that feed you with parameters; it actively optimize the motor based on your requirements and the terrains. In other words, you set the distance and time, and it does some number crunching to work out the optimum pedal assistance to ensure full battery power for the planned route. Clever.
The SPECIALIZED for BMW Turbo Levo FSR 6Fattie e-Mountain Bike, which is accompanied by a color-coordinated water bottle, will be available starting end of August 2017 through select BMW dealers and select SPECIALIZED retailers, priced at a very cool €5,200, or around 5,900 in American greenbacks.
