The Coolest MotoGP Bikes Of All Time

There are some seriously cool bikes out there, with many of them road legal. However, it’s hard to compare them to the bikes that we see competing in MotoGP because they’re purpose-built to win races. But even though they’re racing machines, it doesn’t mean that they’re any less cool.

If you head back to the late sixties and early seventies, you’ll find that the MV Agusta 500 Three was a force to be reckoned with, which was great for anyone who was into betting on MotoGP tournaments. With Giacomo Agostini onboard, between 1966 and 1972, this bike became the coolest around, and potentially one of the coolest ever, with the Italian riding it to seven, yes seven, consecutive MotoGP titles. As far as success on the track goes, the MV Agusta 500 Three is considered the best there’s ever been, which is a serious title to have.

A MotoGP bike is remarkable in its own right, but sometimes the rider takes things to another level. And, in the case of the Yamaha YZR500, it’s not just one rider that helped to make this a seriously cool bike, but three. Between the late seventies and early eighties, this bike had four icons of the sport on board, which ultimately made Yamaha the team to beat on the track. Agostini, who also rode the MV Agusta 500 Three, Kenny Roberts, Eddie Lawson, and Wayne Rainey are the quadruple, with a huge haul of world championship crowns between them. You could say it was the perfect combination, a cool bike that was the best and the best riders.

The Ducati Desmosedici GP21 is undoubtedly one of the coolest bikes in terms of how it looks. The iconic red and black color scheme really grabs your attention, so you can see why so many riders have been keen to get a chance to ride it. On the track, the Ducati Desmosedici GP21 has proven itself more than capable of success, with riders regularly making appearances on the podium. However, so far, while there have been plenty of podium appearances, they’re yet to convert into the sustained success that has led to world titles, so you could say it’s slightly less trendy than the two bikes above in that regard.

The Honda RC213V is a very interesting bike, and we’ll tell you why shortly. Honda was looking for a way to assert its dominance in the sport once again, and the bike, which has an intriguing color scheme featuring reds and oranges, was their way to do precisely that. However, while Honda enjoyed consistent success with rider Marc Marquez on board, you could argue that the RC213V was purposely designed for him, with others finding it difficult to hit the heights that the Spaniard did. But it was undoubtedly the coolest around during Marquez’s pomp on the bike.
