The primary job of a pickup truck is hauling things around i.e. a workhorse. Like, why else would it have a truck bed, and it is called a TRUCK? But apparently, RAM Trucks has another idea with its 2021 RAM 1500 TRX Truck.
The new TRX is not just a workhorse with a towing capacity of 35,100 lbs and a payload of 7,680 lbs, but it is a supertruck that will put some so-called ‘sports cars’ to shame.
Its 6.2L supercharged HEMI V8 engine pumps out 702 horses, turns out 650 lb-ft of torque, and enables it to wipe 0-60 in just 4.5 seconds (yes, it’s a truck) and it makes 0-100 mph in just 10.5 seconds.
If that’s not enough, it takes the quarter mile in just 12.9 seconds at 108 mph. Top speed is not mind-blowing though at 118, but hey, it is a truck, is it not? Anyways, the magical numbers are thanks in part to the high-torque-capacity transmission, a TorqueFlite 8HP95 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The 2021 RAM 1500 TRX Truck’s feature list is long and illustrated, including an innovative dual-path air induction system, full-time active transfer case with upgraded internals, all-new suspension system with active damping, Dana 60 solid rear axle, exclusive to TRX Bilstein shocks, functional hood scoop, and all-new 18-by-9-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in TRX-exclusive Goodyear Wrangler Territory 325/65/R18 all-terrain 35-inch tires – just name a few.
It indeed has a glowing spec sheet and feature list, but we shall leave it to you to decide if the starting price of US$70,095 is worth the money.
Speaking of which… if you prefer something more, say, exclusive, do look out for the launch edition which has just 702 units planned. We heard that will cost 90+K, though. So look away if you think the base is way too pricey.
There is an alternative though… if performance is what you are after. For maximum RAM truck performance, you may also look into getting the Big Bang Injection performance fuel injectors for your RAM truck.
