It’s nearly time to escape our wintery cocoons and step bravely out into the fresh springtime air. If you’ve got your finger firmly on the pulse of fashion, chances are you want to know what styles will be shaping the sunnier side of 2022. You don’t need to spend a fortune to keep on track of the trends though.
Women’s tops retailer, Damart conducted a survey of 2,000 UK adults and found out that just 4% of UK adults thought wearing designer clothing helps to make us look more stylish. Wherever you shop, to help you get ahead of the curve and to the front of the checkout, here are some of the best trends coming to a basket near you this spring and summer.
Mini and Micro Skirts
They’re back! Hemlines are rising along with the mercury this season, as we say a fond farewell to the midi dresses that have stuck with us through thick and thin for the past few years. Best paired with blazers, knits, and other items on the more oversized end of the spectrum, yes, minis are Y2K, and no, we don’t care whatsoever!
Did someone say Y2K! Leather jackets have flapped back onto the catwalks after quite a few wilderness years, and we’re absolutely loving it. Want to wear one ethically? If you’re one of the 42% of UK shoppers who said over half of their wardrobes were made up of second-hand clothing in 2019, apps like Vinted and even your neighborhood Oxfam are great places to pick up used or vegan leather.
After the few years, we’ve had, it’s time to inject some color and brightness into our lives! This season’s catwalks were positive vibrant explosions of color. Sure, there were plenty of your classic pastel tones we’ve all gotten used to, but on top of those were bold fuchsias, hot reds, and zingy greens.
…Or go all white! Particularly prevalent on the more formal end of the catwalk, white maxi dresses, blazers, and skirt suits were all the range in designers’ spring and summer 2022 collections. We love just how smart white looks are – a crisp addition to any wardrobe.
Retro never really goes out of style, and as spring follows winter, so has the Y2K trend that has accompanied hippie-like knits, colors, and flares by the dozen. 70s stripes and big, chunky knits in 70s shades are a great place to start introducing some hippie style into your wardrobe – check out those second-hand stores for even more inspo!
