Trimarchi Samotracia Copper Motorbike

What happens when a designer worked with a furniture maker to design a motorcycle? Well, the result is this gorgeous motorcycle called Trimarchi Samotracia Copper Motorbike. This radical (but necessarily practical, if I may add) motorcycle is designed for Italian furniture maker De Castelli for this year’s Milan Design Week. The focus is not what goes beyond the stunning copper body; the focal point is the body. Never mind that it is not aerodynamically sound, the angular form and the copper gave it a look that I just can’t take my eyes off.

This thing here is essentially a sculpture on wheels. It is not unibody even though it appear to be; several pieces of precision cut copper are painstakingly fused together by welding. Copper was chosen as a reflection of De Castelli’s material of choice and the fact that it will patina over time, aligning “with the time of the city, experienced in an eternally contemporary condition.” Ermmm. That’s kind of profound. That’s beyond me. All I know is, it is a thing of beauty.
