Tuthilltown Bourbon Barrel Matured Maple Syrup | US$24.95 | www.mikuniwildharvest.com
unbeknownst to us regular mortals, there are folks (we call them connoisseurs) who are continuously in the quest for the holy grail of syrup to go with their pancakes and/or waffles. if you fall into the aforementioned group, we have good news for you: the Bourbon Barrel Maple Syrup by Noble Handcrafted might be the one. the word ‘bourbon’ in its namesake is not there by coincidence and yet, it is not literally an alcoholic syrup as much as we would wished. instead, the syrup is made from heritage sugar shacks in the maple orchards of Quebec, then left to mature in oak barrels that once used to contain bourbon (hence the name) by famed New York distillery Tuthilltown. the result? a syrup with distinctive properties of toasty vanilla, deep caramel, and a “soft sweet edge.” though it is not does contain alcohol, we heard it is equally “intoxicating” and be warned: you may end up eating breakfast more than once a day. you can get yours for $24.95 per 400 ml glass bottle.
