How the hell did we missed this all-important Star Wars-related news? I have no idea! Anywho, back in October 2019, prior to Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker hits the theater in December, United Airlines actually had a movie tie-in. Mind you, though, this is more than just passenger aircraft with Star Wars livery like ANA did few years ago. It was a lot more – way, way more.
What’s interesting about this livery is, one side was dedicated to the Light side and the other, the Dark side. The Light side features the resistance’s spacecrafts, ending with Rey’s Lightsaber, while Dark side has the First Order space vehicles and ends with Kylo Ren’s red Lightsaber.
That’s not all. The interior gets a subtle touch of Star Wars theme too. There’s the red and blue headrests with emblems of the opposing forces (red with First Order emblem and blue with the Resistance’s logo). No, apparently, the flight attendants did not dressed up as First Order troopers.
In addition, flying passengers boarding the Star Wars-themed aircraft were greeted with Star Wars-themed music and staff dressed up as Star Wars characters and also scored commemorative pins in the month of December.
Those who do not have a chance to be onboard the Star Wars-themed Boeing jet, or get to see it, was treated to special icon on FlightAware. During the promotion period, anyone can track past and future flights on both desktop and mobile by entering the plane’s tail number and the new livery will appear on FlightAware’s flight tracking maps as the X-Wing starship.
Next, members of MileagePlus Exclusives, also scored special Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker-themed amenity kits, special pins and wait for it… a model aircraft of United’s Star Wars-themed Boeing 737-800. Lucky bastards!
Finally, the tie-in is complete by a Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker-themed in-flight safety video (which you can view after the post). That was a major collab they had and honestly, I am feeling sore that I have missed it. Ugh.
