Look. We are not going to beat around the bush here. Urbanears has announced the company’s first connected speakers last week and it is looking pretty rad. The first two speakers to join the connected speakers lineup are Baggen and Stammen, and like many accomplished speakers we have seen so far, it has a bunch of connectivity, including WiFi, Bluetooth, auxiliary input, and has Chromecast built-in and support both AirPlay and Spotify Connect. So, as far as connectivity is concern, you are pretty much open to a myriad of sources and if that’s not enough, features and connection possibilities may further expand in future via over-the-air updates. So yeah, it is a pretty advanced connected speaker system and all for a starting price of $349.
The speakers have support for multiroom listening, or more than one speaker can be grouped together to create an immersive speaker system. And you probably want one in each room cos’ this baby is so beautiful. Granted I can’t vouch for sound (yet) and I have to take Urbanears’ words for it for now. The speaker is minimalistic, featuring only two knobs found on the top panel. One is a push switch for play/pause, switch between solo and multi-mode, or dialling in the desired volume while the other knob serves as a selection for one of the seven preset Spotify playlists or Internet Radio stations. Overall aesthetic reminisces of the good’ol radio, but with a modern twist.
On the hard specs, the larger Baggen boasts two 2.5-inch full-range tweeters, paired to one 5.25-inch subwoofer and hooked up to three Class D amplifiers to offer 60W of audio bliss and the smaller Stammen has two 3/4-inch neodymium dome tweeters along with a 4-inch sub – all backed by class D amplifiers to result in 36W of audio output. If you are up for it, you can pick up the Urbanears Stammen and Baggen WiFi Speakers for $349 and $449, respectively.
