Fresh out of the “win over the losers, win the world” controversy, Xiaomi has revealed the new Redmi Note 9 series phone. Now, come on, who cares who is calling who loser. What matters is, Xiaomi has been doling out decent-to-good spec-ed devices while remaining affordable.
With the company promised to limit its profit margin to keep the prices competitive, the new Redmi Note 9 series has stay true to its ethos. More on that in a jiffy. Three phones were announced last week. They are: Redmi Note 9 4G, Redmi Note 9 5G, and Redmi Note 9 Pro.
First, the 4G model. It rocks a 120 Hz refresh rate 6.53-inch FHD+ (2,340 x 1,080 pixels) IPS LCD display, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 SoC with 11 nm process octacore process and Adreno 610 GPU. Storage comes in at 128 or 256 GB while memory is 4, 6 or 8 GB.
Around the back is a tri-camera setup comprising of a 48 MP ultra-clear camera, an 8 MP super wide-angle camera and a 2 MP portrait camera. The front gets a 8 MP beauty camera. Rounding the general spec is a whopping 6,000 mAh 18W fast charging battery with support for QC 3.0. Xiaomi said the battery is good for up to 24.3 days of standby time (!?).

The 5G model is driven by a MediaTek Dimensity 800U 5G chip, backed by Mali-G57 MC3 GPU, and 6 + 128 GB memory, 8 + 128 GB memory, or 8 + 256 GB memory.
It has the same 6.53-inch FHD+ (2,340 x 1,080 pixels) IPS LCD display, but with Corning Gorilla Glass 5, and the same main camera setup. The front camera is a 13 MP item and it is juiced by a 18W fast charging 5,000 mAh battery.
The Redmi Note 9 Pro, on the other hand, is powered by the first-to-launch in China 8 nm process Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G liquid-cooled gaming chip. The processor is paired to Adreno 619 GPU, and 6 + 128 GB, 8 + 128 GB or 8 GB + 256 GB memory.
Main snapper is led by the flagship 108 MP main camera, along with an 8 MP ultra-wide camera, a 2 MP macro camera and a 2 MP depth sensor. The front-facing camera is a 16 MP item.
The Redmi Note 9 Pro is a large phone with a 120 Hz refresh rate 6.67-inch FHD+ (2,400 x 1,080 pixels) IPS LCD display with HDR10 support. Battery, however, is of significantly smaller capacity at 4,820 mAh. It has 33 W flash charge.
The Redmi Note 9 4G is available now in China with a starting price of just 999 yuan (about US$152). Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 9 5G and Redmi Note 9 Pro are available to order with a starting price of 1,299 yuan and 1,599 yuan (around US$197 and US$243), respectively.
