China automaker GEELY’s started a new premium battery electric vehicle brand called ZEEKR in 2021. In less than a year, the brand first’s all-electric 001 has broken two Guinness World Records.
The premium all-electric ZEEKR 001 (yes, the model is simply called “001”), which is a four-door shooting brake, broke the record for the fastest drift ever achieved by an electric car.
During the record-breaking drift, the 001 hit a maximum speed of 207.996 km/h (128.621 miles per hour). After making super fast drifts, the ZEEKR 001 then went on to bag the title for the fastest electric car slalom, weaving passed 50 cones without touching or knocking any cones, in 49.05 seconds.
The records were supposedly set in August under the supervision of an adjudicator from Guinness World Records at the CATARC proving ground in China. But here’s the thing. According to Guinness World Records, both records were logged on June 09, 2022. So I am guessing it is only in August that it was officially put on the record?
The record-setter car was the four-wheel drive model, powered by a twin electric drive system, offering 400 kW (about 536 HP) peak power and 768 Nm (566 lb-ft) of torque which allows it to rocket from naught to 100 in just 3.8 seconds. The twin electric motor model also boasts a 50:50 weight distribution.
Depending on the trim, it is paired to either a 86 kWh or a 100 kWh battery that affords a range of 536-650 km (CLTC) (333-404 miles). The latter is offered by the extended range trim.
The car offers no less than 7 driving modes, which include comfort, economy, sports, snow, sand, offroad, and personalized. What’s interesting is the AWD models.
The AWD model has a smart four-wheel drive system that rapidly adapts to current road and driving conditions by quickly switching between three drive modes: rear-wheel, full-time four-wheel drive, and “timely” four-wheel drive. The latter intelligently engaged four-wheel drive when more traction is required, such as when overtaking.
If you read Chinese, you can explore the full specifications of the vehicle over at the brand’s website. Be warned that the website is heavy on background video and can slow down your web experience. If you don’t read Chinese, there is an article on TopElectricSUV that has all the details.
For those who are curious about the pricing, ZEEKR 001 prices range from 299,000-386,000 RMB (approx. US$43,855-56,616).
