we were surprised that the maker of comedy flick The Dictator did not had the Wii in solid gold. it would be absolutely fitting for the plot, then again, back then Gatti Luxury Lab hasn’t popped the idea of solid gold game consoles like it did now. the Italian luxury jeweler has unveiled the ludicrously ostentatious consoles, namely the Playstation 4 and Xbox One, at the Middle Eastern games convention, Games 14. make no mistake, Games 14 is a game convention and not a lavish living show, but we are talking about UAE so, it only makes sense to announce such an opulence in gaming over there. the consoles are said to be crafted from 220 grams (7.76 ounces) of 9kt yellow gold and are handcrafted by Italian master goldsmiths in pure gold, not gold plated, mind you.
despite the consoles being obvious objects of extravagance and possibly, the epitome of lavishness in the gaming world, these custom rigs are not your typical brawl-ish, ostentatious display of wealth in plain, all out gold. well, they are all-out gold but they also have some design to boast about which in this case, the console is, according to Gatti Luxury Lab, inspired by the iconic game, Tetris. but why Tetris? that, we have absolutely no idea. in any case, the ‘Tetris’ design kind of gives the consoles a more tactile look with its square and rectangular ‘plates’, which is a nice touch as compared to plain gold enclosure. the Solid Gold PS4 and Xbox One by Gatti Luxury Lab will be available in United Arab Emirates (naturally), through electronics retailer Jumbo Electronics, where you are expect to shell out a princely sum of 49,999 United Arab Emirates Dirham, or about U$13,600 for each console. keep going for some ‘live’ product photos, courtesy of Gatti.
