1/700 Plastic Model Space Battleship Yamato

So the Megahouse reissue of the Space Battleship Yamato is too puny that even the space rocks encircling it cannot convince you that it’s worthy of your money? Well, fret not—Bandai Namco has you covered. Enter the 1/700 Scale Plastic Model Space Battleship Yamato [50th Anniversary Broadcast Produced by Anno Hideaki Version]. That’s right, my friends, the legendary Anno Hideaki—the mastermind behind Evangelion—has touched up this commemorative kit with fresh cosmic flair.

1/700 Plastic Model Space Battleship Yamato

Originally bundled with the 2008 DVD box, this 38 cm (14.96 in) long and 12 cm (4.72 in) tall plastic ship returns with new molding colors and a custom box illustrated by Anno himself. It’s an ode to vintage sci-fi, now with added gravitas and sharper edges.

Preorders open March 15 and run through May 30, 2025, on A-on STORE [JP], Premium Bandai [JP], Yamato Crew [JP], and even the Evangelion Store [JP]. It’ll set you back 8,800 yen (about US$59), with delivery warping in on January 30, 2026.

Also: the actual model will be on display at the 50th Anniversary Yamato exhibition in Shibuya. So if you’re in the area, go pay your respects to the plastic warship that saved anime space. Bring tissues—for the nostalgia, not the warp drive fumes.
