The Sony-Microsoft rivalry that started in the 2000s has never stopped. Not only does the PlayStation and Xbox console war continue to this day, but it has apparently progressed beyond actual console market share and into the brick-built space via their respective “surrogates.”
Where Microsoft has a building set of the original Xbox with Mattel Brick Shop, Sony has a brick-built recreation of its OG console with, you guessed it, LEGO. That’s right. For the very first time, the legendary original PlayStation console and controller have been recreated in brick form.
Packing 1,911 pieces, the LEGO PlayStation (72306) is an almost 1:1 scale replica of the iconic grey console. Measuring over 6 cm (2.5 inches) high, 26 cm (10.5 inches) wide, and 19 cm (7.5 inches) deep, the completed model features functional Open and Power buttons and a plug-in brick-built controller.
And like Mattel Brick Shop’s Xbox, this non-playable PlayStation also boasts hidden buildable dioramas of iconic games because, what’s a replica console without games that are synonymous with it?
Fans can assemble a mini track from Gran Turismo (originally released in 1997), with tiny cars ready to race, and a scene from Ape Escape (released in 1999) featuring the game’s iconic red or blue monkey helmet.
Though, admittedly, those two dioramas are a little abstract due to the tiny scale. In the case of Gran Turismo, the “cars” are represented by Tile, Round 1 x 1 Half Circle Extended pieces, and so… you get the idea of how abstract it is. Anyhoo, these dioramas can stay hidden inside the console or be pulled out for display.
To perfectly capture the glory of the PS1, the 72306 has adopted a mostly SNOT (Studs Not On Top) design. Though a few studs can still be seen, breaking the otherwise perfect illusion. The DualShock controller, however, appears to have completely embraced the SNOT build.
Unfortunately, the set does not include a brick-built memory card for you to relive the moment of inserting one into the machine. Though you can totally recreate the moment you plug the controller into the console.
The LEGO PlayStation (72306) will be available publicly starting October 4, 2026, for US$179.99. Before that, it will be available to LEGO Insiders starting October 1, 2026.
The 72306 is LEGO’s third full-scale brick-built console, following the LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System (71374) and LEGO Icons Atari 2600 (10306). It is also the fourth brick-built console if you include the lovely mini build of the Sega Genesis.
