First announced last year, the life-size Freedom Gundam statue based on Mobile Suit Gundam SEED is finally completed on April 26. The finishing touch was completed when the mecha’s head was mounted to the body. The statue towers at 18.03 m (59′) tall and tips the scales at 50 ton, and is the first to rock a pair of massive wings.
The life-size Freedom Gundam statue in China is made up of 288 individual parts. The head, which itself has 13 individual components, is 3.1 meters (10 feet) tall and weighs in at 0.3 tons. The Gundam statue marks the beginning of new product cooperation in China.
It is worthy to note that the completion on the 26th is not the end yet. Over the next month, further tweaks will be carried out before an official commissioning on May 28.
The life-size Freedom Gundam statue is located at the front of Mitsui Fudosan Group’s first commercial property, Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport Shanghai Jinqiao (Golden Bridge). The completion also coincide with the grand opening of the facility where a 4-story Gundam store, known as Gundam Base, is also located.
The Gundam Base, which is open for business since April 28, is where you can find a bunch of Gundam Base limited products as well as collectibles relating to the life-size Freedom Gundam statue.
This 18-meter tall statue is the first life-size Gundam statue outside of Japan following the life-size Unicorn Gundam statue in Tokyo and the recent moving Gundam in Gundam Factory Yokohama.
