Whether you are an ocean lover or a G-Shock collector, you are going to love the latest addition to the G-Shock family of shock-resistant timepieces. Folks, meet the G-Shock x Surfrider Foundation G-5600SRF Watch. Designed in collaboration with the California-based Surfrider Foundation, an international environmental NGO with the mission of protecting the oceans, the G-5600SRF is the eighth collaboration with the NGO that stays true to its mission.
The G-Shock x Surfrider Foundation G-5600SRF Watch features a bezel and a band with recycled resin scraps recovered from Casio manufacturing facilities. The process of mixing the finely shredded scrap resin into a base urethane material results in a fun, unique design created by black and white flakes of added material. Though I have to admit that I mistaken this design for a scene of space the first time I saw the product images. So not so ocean about it. Just saying…
Anyhoo, the nature of mixed molding also brought about a unique design feature: it is unlikely that two watches will have the same pattern and color. How’s that for individualism? The watch further features the Surfrider Foundation logo on the dial as well as the case back. Meanwhile, the hashtag #oceanfriendlylifestyle can be found printed on the band loop.
Beyond the Surfrider Foundation co-branding, the G-5600SRF is as practical as any G-Shock timepiece with features like a Tough Solar charging system, 20-bar water resistance (200 meters or 678 feet), Super Illuminator, 5 world times from 48 cities, 1/100-second stopwatch, countdown timer, 5 daily alarms, and more. Rounding up the package is a special eco-package made with recycled materials.
The new G-Shock x Surfrider Foundation G-5600SRF Watch is expected to drop in June, in Japan, for 19,800 yen (approximately US$127). No news on its international release yet, though.
