racing car enthusiasts will agree that 70s was perhaps the golden era of racing and to this end, race machines of that era are highly collectible. if you are those with a fortune and have affinity for such fast machine, then you won’t want to miss this piece of classic: the 1978 Rondeau M378 Le Mans GTP Racing Car. over a span of 10 years (from 1978 to 1988), it made 10 Le Mans entries, making it the single car that has taken more 24 hours of Le Mans starts than any other in history. this beautiful racing classic is equipped with a 415 horsepower (309 kW), 2993 cc Ford Cosworth DFV DOHC V8 unit with electronic fuel injection, mated to Hewland five-speed manual transmission and features independent suspension with double wishbones and coil springs and rear radius arms, and all-round hydraulic disc brakes. this particular example here is the chassis number 001, which is beautifully restored in recent times with some $300,000 spent on it and bears its 1980 GTP-winning red/white “Belga” livery. the 1978 Rondeau M378 Le Mans GTP Racing Car is destined to go under the hammer at the Monaco sales event organized by RM Auctions and is expected to fetch between €600,000 to €750,000. the Monaco sales will be held at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco from May 10 through to May 12, 2012. click through for a small but awesome gallery of this gorgeous classic.
