Mercedes-Benz has released details and teaser images of the 2012 B-Class ahead of its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. touted as “a quantum leap in the compact class”, the new B-Class sports refinements in every possible aspects including chassis and suspension, improved aerodynamics, high-tech engines and safety technology.
the new B-Class also marks the launch of a completely new engine series, with the B180 getting the 1.6-liters petrol engine with 122 horsepower (90 kW) and 200 Nm of torque, while the B200 gets the 2.0-liter petrol that puts out a healthy 156 horsepower (115 kW) and 250 Nm of torque. the diesel variant gets a newly developed diesel engine with 1.8-liter (B180 CDI) and 2.0-liter (B200 CDI) displacements that generates 109 horsepower and 136 horsepower respectively. maximum torque stands at 250 Nm for the B180 CDI and 300 Nm for the B200 CDI. transmission will be either the 6-speed manual or the new 7G-DGT dual clutch transmission.
along with the new engines, the B-Class features an array of state-of-the-art safety system such as adaptive headlamp assist, blind spot assist and lane keeping assist, active parking assist, hill hold function, among the many others. the B-Class is the world’s first in the compact segment to receive the radar-based collision warning system with adaptive Brake Assist as standard equipment. the 2012 B-Class also boast a lower drag coefficient that’s close to the E-Class coupe. check out a few teaser images from Mercedes-Benz after the break.
