As we all know, Xiaomi is more than a handset maker. It makes a variety of home appliances and… no, wait. It actually makes just about everything and now, even calendar. No, not a digital version on a digital display. That will be so predictable and so very unnecessary in today’s context. We are talking about the good’ol paper calendar. Yup. Paper. Shocking right? Like, how many times you actually flip a paper calendar? Or do you just whip out your smartphone? I think get what I mean. However, this particular calendar is really a lifestyle product.
Entitled gěi nín de 365 gè zhùfú (给您的365个祝福), which loosely translates to Giving You 365 Days of Blessing, this book-style calendar adopts the traditional Chinese book design boasting a red-and-gold cover with deboss Chinese characters and wax-treated pages in vibrant colors and perfect for writing. Speaking of pages, it has, obviously, 365 of them – one for each day of the year – bound together by thread sewing binding with the spine completely exposed, just like the good’ol days. The open ridge design, combined with the multicolored papers inside, create quite a sight to behold.
Each of the 365 pages features words of blessing written by China’s Generation Y calligrapher Xu Jian. In addition, each copy of the calendar comes with a replica of the Chinese word “fú”, which means “Blessing”, calligraphed by China Calligraphy Association’s Honorary Chairman, 88-year-old Shen Peng. All told, this unexpected from Xiaomi measures a handy 175 x 105 x 32 mm (6.89 x 4.13 x 1.26 inches) and each copy comes with sleeve.
If this unexpected product piques your interest, you can find it on Xiaomi’s very own crowdfunding platform, YouPin, where it is being crowdfunded for 59 RMB (around US$8.92) a pop. Obviously, you have to be residing in China acquire it and also you need to understand Chinese, or else this calendar won’t make any sense at all.
