Toyota has launched the all-new Crown Sport Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) model in Japan. Joining the Toyota Crown Sport Z is the Toyota Crown Sport RS PHEV. The RS is based on the Sport Z which is a HEV model, btw. This model enhances the driving experience with sporty features, including a high-output motor and a large-capacity lithium-ion battery, providing a significant BEV-mode cruising range.
The vehicle is built to high standards with a focus on design, safety, and performance, offering advanced technologies like E-Four electric 4WD system, Adaptive Variable Suspension, and effective braking systems. Additionally, it includes convenient features like “My Room Mode” for in-car comfort, external power supply capabilities, and rapid charging functions.
It is powered by a Series Parallel Hybrid with a reduction gear drivetrain featuring an A25A-FXS 2.5L Dynamic Force Engine and an E-Four driveline. The 2.5-liter Series Parallel Plug-in Hybrid System puts out 225 kW (306 PS). Meanwhile, its large capacity lithium-ion battery in the center floor of the vehicle allows for a BEV-mode cruise range of up to 90 km and a hybrid-mode fuel economy of 20.3 km/L.
Together with the 55L gasoline tank, this new PHEV from Toyota has an impressive total range of 1,200 km or more. The power generated by the plug-in hybrid system is fully distributed among all four wheels through Toyota’s E-Four electric 4WD system.
The Crown Sport PHEV further boasts added braces to the floor tunnel to ensure an optimal balance of body rigidity – among other improvements. This is definitely the Crown jewel of the Crown lineup. Well, at least it is for the Crown Sport line.
Other notables include paddle shifters, front 20-inch ventilated disc brakes with exclusive 20-inch aluminum opposing 6-pod calipers, red front and rear calipers, a maximum 1,500 W (AC 100V) external power supply for emergencies and outdoor activities, power socket in trunk and rear of center console, rapid charging charges battery to 80% in 38 minutes, 21-inch exclusive black aluminum wheels, and a black and “sensual red” asymmetrical color scheme on the inside.
The vehicle comes with an accessory that turns the charging port into an external power socket for users to advantage of the aforementioned 1,500 W power supply.
The all-new Toyota Crown Sport RS PHEV is available in Japan now with a starting price of 7,650,000 yen [JP] (which is about US$54,246 based on the current going rate).
