1964 Amphicar Model 770

So, you don’t trust a houseboat trike to take you across the lake? Well then, you may want to look at the 1964 Amphicar Model 770. Oh, wait. You can’t. Somebody snapped it up on May 8th for US$59,000 when it was put on the block on Bring A Trailer. But anyways… it is good know it exists.

1964 Amphicar Model 770

And oh yeah, the 1964 Amphicar Model 770 is an amphibious car. It is powered by a whopping 43 horsepower 1,148cc Triumph inline-out engine mated to a 4-speed manual transmission which allows it to make 70 mph on land and a briskly 7 knots in water. “70” and “7” are why this particular model is so designated as model “770”.

When in water, a pair of nylon propellers under the bumper propels the craft forward while the front wheels serve as the rudders.

Other highlights include a super cool red and white vinyl upholstery, steel dashboard, aftermarket AM/FM cassette player (!), 13-inch steel wheels with Amphicar covers and Goodyear Vector whitewall tires, and a supposed low mileage of under 3,850 miles. However, it is noted that the true mileage of this unique ride is unknown.

Obviously, the model 770 is not the first of its kind. Previously, we have seen a bunch of them, including a super cool amphibious Volvo station wagon.
