To be honest, I am not a huge fan of curved screen. It’s gorilla-size hand-unfriendly. I keep triggering something on the slight curved on the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus. I cannot imagine if a phone has even more ridiculous curve and on all sides. And curve on all-side, aka quad-curved screen, is exactly what Xiaomi has pitched with a new concept phone.
I am not going to deny that Xiaomi Quad-curved Waterfall Display Concept Smartphone, as it is called, looked cool with the entire phone appearing to be covered by screen. But damn, I can already imagine me accidentally firing up something every single time when holding the phone. Also, this is the one phone you don’t want any drop. Ever.
Four-sided curved display aside, this phone is also one with no ports or buttons. Looks like Xiaomi is realizing Apple’s vision, eh? Anyhoo, the display is dubbed as 88o hyper quad-curved screen. Xiaomi claims that it is not made by bending the display. Instead, it is made to be 88o hyper quad-curved screen through 3D bonding process.
Apparently, this concept phone alone has 46 self-developed patented technologies. Among those technologies are ultra-thin piezoelectric ceramics, an industry-first flexible film display acoustic technology, third-generation under-display cameras, wireless charging, eSIM chips, pressure-sensitive touch sensors, and more.
The Xiaomi Quad-curved Waterfall Display Concept Smartphone is, well, a concept developed to showcase the company’s technologies. That said, it is unlikely that it will become a reality. However, the technologies will most definitely find their way to the various models in future.
