With 2.5 billion gamers worldwide, it is hard for Swedish flat pack furniture giant, IKEA, to ignore this humongous pie. Like Herman Miller, they, too, wants a piece of the action and also like Herman Miller, IKEA isn’t diving in it alone – they have a partner.
The furniture maker admitted that, when it comes to gaming, they are novices and so, they teamed up with ASUS ROG to create a line of gaming furniture called UPPSPEL.
In addition to UPPSPEL, IKEA has also developed five other gaming product families designed based on the insights and knowledge gained from the collaboration and they include HUVUDSPELARE, UTESPELARE, MATCHSPEL, GRUPPSPEL, and LÅNESPELARE.
All told, there are more than 30 products, ranging from furniture like gaming desks and chairs to accessories such as CPU stand with castors, headphone stand and more.
The new IKEA gaming range was launched at IKEA China on January 29, 2021. Starting from May 2021, it will be available at IKEA Japan. The range will be available globally starting on October 2021.
As to how much, it is not known. As a gauge, the prices in China start at 49 yuan (about US$7.91) and run up to as much as 3,999 yuan (around US$621) for the UPPSPEL gaming desk.
