Lao Feng Xiang (老凤祥 loosely translates to Old Auspicious Phoenix) and Bandai Namco’s Mobile Suit Gundam SEED are possibly the most luxurious and most expensive yet. The collection includes several jewelry pieces crafted from 99.9% pure gold. However, while pretty, it is the golden Gundam statue that commands everyone’s attention.
Based on the life-size Freedom Gundam design at Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport Shanghai Jinqiao, this super luxe, super bling Gundam statue is crafted from 1,000 grams (2.2 pounds!) of 99.9% pure gold aka 24-karat gold—complete with all the mechanical details and panel lines you’d expect.
At 164 mm (6.5 inches) tall, it may not be the biggest Gundam figure out there but it is possibly the priciest Gundam yet, commanding an eye-watering 880,000 yuan, which works out to be around US$121,225 according to the current going rate. And yes, it is available to buy. But it is only for the Chinese market and has a very limited run of just 10 copies.
If 880,000 yuan is a bit much, there is a small 59 mm (2.3 inches) variety that is a tad more affordable. This small-scale golden Freedom Gundam is crafted from 100 grams (3.53 ounces) of 99.9% pure gold, and it is equally detailed. The 100g Pure Gold Freedom Gundam Statue is way more affordable at “just” 89,800 yuan (or approximately 12,371 USD based on the current going rate).
Both the Lao Feng Xiang 1,000g and 100g Pure Gold Freedom Gundam Statues, along with other Gundam SEED gold products are available online and offline at Lao Feng Xiang stores. However, we do find their presence online. Perhaps, I did not dig hard enough. Anyhoo, if you ever wished for a super luxe Gundam model, well now you know where to get one.
