In case you haven’t been dabbling in the wonderful world of keycaps… You may want to know that it has officially gone above and beyond in recent years. If you think the World of Warcraft Illidan Design Resin Backlit keycap, and the Evangelion keycap are over-the-top, wait still here about a character bust keycap set that covers three keys. I have no idea who started it but it exists, and this one that I came across on Chinese microblogging site, Weibo, is sure to appeal to Transformers fans.
Folks, meet the Transformers Optimus Prime “Bust’ Keycap set by Johnny Studio (I think it is this dude [CH]). It is designed to cover three consecutive keys, thus allowing it to form a miniature bust of the Autobots’ leader. I know, it is not the most proportional bust because it looks like Optimus Prime has been overdoing its shoulder raise on every given gym day. But it is still cool because Johnny Studio has painstakingly tweaked the design to allow the three separate keycaps, namely, the two shoulders, and the chest with the head, to appear as one.
It is not clear if Optimus’s head is adjustable but it does look kinda of weird that it keeps looking up to the sky. Internally, the light source from the backlit keyboard is routed to the chest and eyes to create the lighted effect. I am not sure if it is officially licensed (probably not!). Anyhoo, if you want one, or something along this line, it can be found on Taobao.com selling for just 287 yuan (about US$41). The dude also created an EVA Unit-01 and several Gundam bust keycap sets.
