How fast is your fridge? No. I am serious. How fast? Or does your refrigerator at least look fast? Does it ignite images of the thrill of Le Mans racing? Probably not. But here’s a refrigerator that will: the Fridge 917 Salzburg – Porsche x Smeg.
Now, we are a little late on this, but this limited-edition kitchen appliance—with 1,970 numbered units worldwide—is still available if anyone wants it. This exclusive fridge celebrates the historic win of the Porsche 917 KH Salzburg at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970, driven by Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood.
Smeg takes its iconic fridge and customizes it with Porsche 917 KH Salzburg livery elements against a “917 Salzburg Red” colorway. The iconic Porsche stripe runs across the width of the sides and door, while the number 23 lollipop — the starting number of the 1970 Le Mans-winning Porsche — sits proudly on the lower half of the fridge above the stripe, finishing the race car tribute. Each refrigerator bears a metal plaque with its individual limited-edition number.
But the collaboration does not stop at the obvious. The trademark SMEG branding appears in matte black, and the conventional handle is replaced with a Porsche 911 GT3 RS-inspired door handle. The interior profiles are finished in a darker tone to echo the exterior black details.
As a fridge, it offers 270 liters of cold storage, double-sided LED interior lighting, double freshness drawers, and a 26-liter static freezer compartment. Technically, it features an inverter compressor for precise temperature control, improved energy efficiency, and reduced noise and vibration. A multiflow system ensures even air circulation and consistent cooling.
This is not just a Smeg with Porsche stickers slapped on. Case in point: the door is thermoformed from a single piece using a specially developed mold, guaranteeing seamless transitions across the surface. That engineering detail may not be race-spec, but it is very much in line with Porsche’s ethos.
If you want one, it is still available for US$4,499 plus tax.
The Fridge 917 Salzburg – Porsche x Smeg is not the only product in the Porsche x Smeg collection. There is also the non-limited Fridge – Porsche x Smeg at US$3,999 plus tax, finished in Shade Green or Carrara White Metallic and featuring the same sports car-inspired handle and Porsche stripe.
The collection also includes a blender (US$449 plus tax), a coffee machine (US$1,599 plus tax), a kettle (US$349 plus tax), and a toaster (US$349 plus tax). Unfortunately, the coffee machine, kettle, and toaster are currently sold out on shop.porsche.com.
