Volkswagen is moving fast and furious in its plan to have half of its vehicle sales to be electric by 2030 and joining the Volkswagen ID. line electric vehicles of compact hatch, van, SUV and SUV coupé, and sedan concept is this newest reveal: the All-electric Volkswagen ID. XTREME Off-road Concept Car.
The All-electric Volkswagen ID. XTREME Off-road Concept Car is based on the performance-enhanced ID.4 GTX, so it is technically not a new car. The ID. XTREME is also a demonstration of the performance and versatility of the modular electric drive matrix (MEB) which the ID. line is built on and it is the most powerful ID. model yet, outfitted with all-wheel-drive.
Speaking of drive, it has a high-performance motor on the rear axle and software adaptations in the drive control unit that bumped up the system power of the concept car to 285 kW (382 HP) – which is a 65 kW (87 HP) increase over the ID.4 GTX.
In addition, there are the requisite ruggedized features including raised rally running gear, 18-inch off-road wheels, a modified crash member with an additional front bumper, 50 mm wider wings produced by 3D printing, a roof carrier with additional LED lights, and a completely closed aluminum underbody.
The ID. XTREME Off-road Concept Car has a brand new sound to complement its rugged look too. The driving sound was developed with VW Design specifically for the concept and is output through a sound generator in the wheel housing.
Meanwhile on the inside, expect to find Alcantara, revamped seats, and elements in the accent color orange.
The All-electric Volkswagen ID XTREME Off-road Concept Car was revealed on September 9, at the ID. Treffen in Locarno. ID. Treffen is the equivalent of the GTI meeting at Lake Wörth created by fans of electric mobility. This year’s event, which took place at Lago Maggiore, ran from September 6-10.
