AMEX Digital just announced its new media player, dubbed the MP-G7 Media Gate, powered by Android. though there is an official press release, i still find the information rather scant. anyway, AMEX Digital’s (not to be confused with American Express) media box features a dual core ARM Cortex processor with “full HD accelerator processing” and is capable of handling a variety of video file format, including .mkv, h.264 files. though no specific about what Android it is running but it is said that it can run Android applications downloaded from it’s unofficial marketplace.

full HD video output is via HDMI out and its USB ports supports USB powered peripherals such as keyboard and mouse, which is definitely a welcome feature. those who have used media player and will understand the pain of trying to input the search terms. i often wonder why a keyboard was never integrated into its remote controller. having a keyboard should make input of words or terms significantly easier, though you probably have to provide your own. other features include a 2.5-inch 500GB hard drive, optical out, WiFi, Ethernet and SD card support. there is no clear indication on when this thing will hit the stores but it carries a retail price of around $199.
