The DeLorean Time Machine has been recreated more times than Doc Brown has shouted “Great Scott!” While some versions include figures, they tend to be toys, or oversized and expensive display pieces rather than traditional model kits. Yet many model kits shared one curious omission: the driver’s seat was empty, until now. Aoshima has done something about that.
Its latest 1/24-scale Back to the Future Part I Time Machine model kit includes a newly sculpted, unpainted Marty McFly figure that fits behind the wheel. It is a simple addition, but one that brings the model to life. After all, the DeLorean isn’t famous because it is a DeLorean. It is famous because Marty drove it through time.
The kit faithfully recreates the Time Machine from the first film, inside and out. The gullwing doors remain operable after assembly, while builders can choose to install the lightning rod from the Hill Valley clock tower finale or recreate the iconic time-travel effect using the included flaming tire-track parts.
Aoshima also throws in a few fun extras from Doc Brown’s Twin Pines Mall experiment, including the remote-control transmitter and video camera used during the DeLorean’s first successful trip through time.
As with any proper plastic model kit, assembly and painting are required. Once completed, the Time Machine measures approximately 184 mm (7.2 inches) long.
The Aoshima Movie Mecha No. BT-05 Back to the Future Part I Time Machine with Figure is scheduled for release in September 2026. It has a retail price of 7,700 yen (around US$53), but it is now available for pre-order at 25% off, for 5,775 yen [JP] (about US$36).
