If the Atari Gamestation Pro is not retro-looking enough for you, or for some reason, you have a catalog of the Atari 2600 with no Atari 2600 to play with, then this news will be the best thing you will hear all day. The Atari 2600+, revealed a couple of months ago, is finally available to buy. Why is it exciting?
Well, it is the replica of the 1980 CX2600-A model which looks exactly like the video game console you remembered but only smaller. What’s cool about this new reboot video console is it includes support for original Atari 2600 and 7200 cartridges.
Retro enthusiasts will be thrilled as nearly 600 tested games boast a whopping 99% compatibility rate with the Atari 2600+. Atari.com hosts an updated compatibility list for enthusiasts to check their collections.
The console arrives with iconic titles like Adventure and Missile Command, mirroring the original 4-switch Atari 2600 system using modern tech. Nostalgia reigns with the inclusion of the CX40+ Joystick Controller, faithfully replicating the ’70s and ’80s gameplay experiences.
Celebrating the launch of the Atari 2600+, Atari introduces three new accessories: the CX78+ Gamepad for two-button 7800 games, a standalone CX30+ Paddle Pack, and an extension cable. Early 2024 promises four more 7800/2600 games, with more details on retailer availability soon.
Available worldwide are the CX-30 Paddle Controller with a 4-in-1 multi-game cartridge for $39.99 (34.99€ / £29.99), standalone CX-40 Joystick for $24.99 (22.99€ / £19.99), Berzerk Enhanced Edition, and Mr. Run and Jump, each priced at $29.99 (29.99€ / £24.99) – all hitting stores today.
The Atari 2600+ is available to buy for US$129.99.
