Audi must have been busy with the firm’s archives, digging out past glorious vehicle and creating new iterations for them, and the Audi S1 is yet another that pays homage the WRC-winning Audi S1 of the 80s. we are not complaining – in fact, it looks so awesome both on the outside and under the hood that we find no reasons not to like what the Ingolstadt-based firm has done. billed as premium subcompact, the S1 is the newest member of the S1 quattro family, powered by a new 2.0-liter TFSI unit, mated to a short-shift six-speed manual gearbox that sends 228 hp (170 kW) and 370 Nm (272.9 lb-ft) of torque to its quattro all-wheel-drive.
the result? a century sprint in 5.9 seconds for the Audi S1 Sportback and a tad fast at 5.8 seconds for the S1. so, yes. there are two models of S1 – the three-door Audi S1 and a five-door Audi S1 Sportback. both model has a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). along with an awesome drivetrain that befits its ‘S’ status is a set of S-specific sports suspension, reworked for the S1, with adjustable damper settings via the Audi drive select adaptive dynamics system, which when combines with the electromechanical power steering, offers sharpen response in turning. the S1 rolls on 17-inch wheels, shod in 215/40 R17 rubbers, while stopping power comes from 310mm large brake discs coupled with larger brake master cylinder.
other details include xenon plus headlamps, LED rear lights, sculpted roof spoiler, a dark tone themed interior, piano black finish air vent sleeves, dark grey scales S-specific instruments, brushed stainless steel pedals, sports seats of Milano leather and Olympic cloth upholstery, electronic climate control, a six-speaker single CD audio system with auxiliary iPod connection and SD card reader, a 6.5-inch retractable color monitor, Bluetooth connectivity, as well as Driver’s information system. the new Audi S1 and S1 Sportback will be available in two new paint jobs: Vegas yellow and Sepang blue, on top of what are available in the current palette. the duo is slated to hit UK dealerships starting mid-March priced from £24,900 and from £25,630 for the S1 Sportback.
