Back in February 2022, Bing Dwen Dwen, the mascot of the Winter Olympic Games 2022, was all the rage. The mascot’s toy was selling like hotcakes with many fans could not get their hands on one, thus resulting in scalpers having quite a field day.
While we can’t do anything about it, Gunpla model builder extraordinaire Ray of Ray Studio decided to make his own Bing Dwen Dwen but with a beautiful twist. Using plastic model kits parts fished out of his box of, well, plastic model kit parts and a head from a donor Megami Device Asra Archer Aoi kit from Kotobukiya, Ray created a diorama of a Bing Dwen Dwen girl model aka Panda Girl, and boy, is it a thing of beauty.
The highlights here are, of course, the Bing Dwen Dwen headgear hand-sculpted using modeling clay – complete with a pair of snow shades, and the Panda-inspired color scheme that makes her the Panda Girl. The custom figure is dressed in a custom transparent coat sculpted out of a heat shrink tube, and a custom-built futuristic snowboard.
Rounding up Ray’s creation is a diorama of a snow slope, also custom-built by the man himself. The setup is so good that I wish it is something money can buy. Unfortunately, like all of Ray’s previous creations, it is not for sale.
But it’s Okay. We heard if you keep watching the build video over and over again for like a gazillion times, it will feel like you already own the figure. It might be an urban legend but it may be well worth a try:
