you have probably heard it is coming, but now it has gone official, albeit with some details still missing. the BMW M5 “30 Jahre M5” (30 years of the M5), as it is officially known, is a special edition ride crafted to mark the M5’s 30 years old birthday. based on the latest generation of M5, the fifth-generation model, the “30 Jahre M5” edition pushes out 592 horsepower (441 kW) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque out of its 4.4-liter V8 M TwinPower Turbo unit, which is a good 32 hp and 14 lb-ft bump over the standard M5, and 17 more horses over the Competition Package. the new found power, mated to an yet to be disclosed transmission, is said to make the century sprint (0-62 mph) in just 3.9 seconds. with the new special edition model, it becomes the most powerful M5 from a series production and it is also the most powerful car in history of the brand.
beyond those tiny bits of ‘updated’ information, little is still known about this soon to be available ride, except for that it will sport the BMW Individual-inspired looks along with numbers dynamics and comfort-enhancing equipment details. though not explicitly said (yet), the interior appears to sport a leather and Alcantara upholstery with white contrast stitching, and a healthy dash of “30 Jahre” branding can be found on the dash, seats, side sills, as well as the exterior door handles. a limited run of 300 examples of the BMW M5 “30 Jahre M5” will be made, which we find it odd. why not just 30 since it is 30 years? perhaps, the Munich folks find that 30 is too small a number for worldwide market? probably. in any case, it is a welcome news for BMW and M5 fans around the world. prices and availability are yet to be announced. in the mean time, we invite you scour through this post for a few more official images (click on them for larger views).
