What if you are super rich but constantly fear for your life? Simple. The first step is, of course, to engage armed bodyguards who aren’t former Stormtroopers, for obvious reasons. Then make sure your house and office are as secure as Buckingham Palace. You may also want a few bulletproof three-piece suits. Finally, you need a vehicle with special protection. Obviously, it should befit your wealthy status.

This is where a ride like the BMW Concept 7 Protection comes in. BMW has offered factory-built protection vehicles before, including the i7 Protection and 7 Series Protection. With this latest concept, though, it is exploring something for customers who need protection without going all the way to its high-security models.
Based on the BMW 7 Series sedan, it addresses everyday, situational, and highly unpredictable risks, which sounds like a rather stressful calendar. Perhaps you may want to pick up some bulletproof backpacks, or maybe even a backpack that transforms into body armor for your little ones, too.
Familiar Discretion, a Different Protection Level
Like BMW’s existing protection sedans, the Concept 7 Protection keeps its armor discreetly integrated into a familiar luxury-car exterior. What changes is the scope of protection: it is intended for customers facing defined handgun threats who do not require the higher protection levels of BMW’s existing high-security models.
Its protection sits below the BMW X5 Protection VR6 and the higher-security 7 Series Protection. BMW says it complies with the new BayB standard and is designed to protect against selected common handgun ammunition, including 9×19 mm and .44 Magnum.
That distinction matters. This is protection for defined handgun threats; customers requiring blast protection need a vehicle with a higher protection level.

The glass is substantially thicker than on the regular sedan. Inside the doors, ballistic steel and fiber-reinforced composites provide protection, with the joins between the doors, windows, and body incorporated into the design. The bulkhead and rear wall are included, too.
Even the panoramic glass roof gets protection beneath it. From outside, it still looks like the production car’s sunroof. Inside, the sunblind stays permanently closed to conceal the protective layer. So, yes, you have a panoramic roof. No, you will not be enjoying the view through it.
Plenty of Power to Move the Extra Hardware
The concept uses technology from the BMW M760e xDrive. Its plug-in hybrid drivetrain combines a 3.0-liter inline-six petrol engine with an electric motor integrated into an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, sending power through BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system.
Combined output is 450 kW/612 hp, with 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. The engine contributes 313 kW/426 hp, while the electric motor produces 145 kW/197 hp. Those individual peaks do not simply add together, hence the different combined figure.
BMW calibrates the chassis, brakes, drivetrain, and driver-assistance systems around the additional protection equipment. The intention is to keep it driving like a 7 Series, rather than make you feel the weight of every security decision.
No acceleration figures, electric range, or vehicle weight are supplied.

Close the Windows, Open the Cool Box
Inside, Smoke White BMW Individual Merino leather meets Alcantara trim and an anthracite Alcantara headlining. Electrically operated sunblinds and sun protection glazing provide privacy, while a digital interior mirror helps with rearward visibility.
The rear seats also introduce a BMW Individual console with a foldable table, wireless charging tray, and cool box. Being concerned about your safety does not mean your drink has to be warm.
That console is not restricted to the protection concept: BMW says it will become available for 7 Series vehicles in the second half of 2027.
An intercom lets occupants speak to people outside without opening the doors or windows, and an attack alarm supplies visual and audible alerts. The side windows remain electrically operated, although they cannot open fully.
BMW has not announced a price or confirmed production availability for the Concept 7 Protection. It previews a possible expansion of the Protection lineup, initially focused on selected European markets.
For the right customer, the appeal is clear: a familiar luxury sedan with additional protection built in by BMW. For everyone else, the cool box and folding table sound like a much more relaxing part of the specification. If anyone is keen, you may request for more information here.
