Canon isn’t exactly known for ‘fun’ cameras, but here it is, a “fun” camera you never have imagined to have come from the Japanese imaging company best known for its DSLR and projectors. No. We do not see colorful point-and-shoot cameras as “fun”. Anyways, what’s even more unimaginable is, Canon will be taking the camera, which it calls Canon IVY REC Clippable Outdoor Camera, to crowdfunding platform Indiegogo to peddle the ware.

Canon IVY REC Clippable Outdoor Camera

Not a lot is known about this upcoming fun shooter. However, we do know that Canon IVY REC Clippable Outdoor Camera will feature a 13.0 megapixel 1/3-inch CMOS sensor, 1080p video recording at 60 fps, and it will sport both Bluetooth and wireless connectivity. We also know that it is lightweight, clippable (duh!), and it is built to be shockproof and waterproof to a meter (3.3 feet) for up to 30 minute each time.

Judging from the colors previewed on Indiegogo coming soon page, Canon IVY REC Clippable Outdoor Camera is no doubt a fun shooter. Canon proudly proclaims that Canon IVY REC Clippable Outdoor Camera has “no fragile screen to crack” because, it ain’t got any to begin with. The carabiner-style clip also doubles as viewfinder of the bygone era.

You are not out of luck if you are those who can’t live without live preview for framing your shots. You will be able to do so on your phone with an upcoming companion CanonMini Cam app. The app also allows you to transfer and share photos and videos wirelessly.

Even with the lack of details, I am already sold by the idea. If you are too, you may want to sign up to be notified when the campaign goes live. And you will want to do that because early birds will be able to reserve a unit a up to 30 percent off its eventual retail price.

Update [July 12, 2019] The campaign is now live and as we read, it is on ‘Perk Goal’ which it has already met. That said, the early bird pricing is gone, but at the time of the writing, you can still pre-order it for $120 a pop. Shipping is estimated to happen in October 2019.
