Take your love for arcade gaming anywhere with the Cary42, a portable arcade gaming device created by the very talented Love Hulten. Inspired by attaché cases, the Cary42 is the updated big brother of the R-Kaid-R from a few years ago. Not only is it larger, it is also a tad more ‘sociable’ now because it comes with two sets of joy stick and buttons combo that will allow two players to enjoy classic co-op titles like Metal Slug, Gauntlet, and Contra. And if your buddy and yourself ever find that 100 games aren’t enough, there’s a USB port that will let you store over 10,000 emulated games of your choosing, so you guys will never run out of games to play.
As expected from a craftsman who demands nothing but the best, Cary42 is impeccably handcrafted, boasting a solid American walnut exterior and a satin grey interior accentuated by black and white buttons. Nothing is in red like you would find on traditional arcade machines and that’s where the beauty lies. It is minimal, sleek and totally a thing which man-in-black who have an affinity for arcade games would love to lug along. A few other notables include a modern day 12-inch LCD display in a classic 4:3 aspect ratio, built-in stereo speakers rated at 10W, and a 16GB Nano flash loaded with 100 titles, plus room for even more titles if you desire. For me, I am cool with Metal Slug and Bubble Bobble, really, but hey, I won’t complain if there are more.
Like the R-Kaid-R, the Cary42 is limited to just 50 units and therefore, if you want one, you have act fast and also, be prepared to drop a tad more than its predecessor, or €2,599 (around US$3,030) to be exact. Before you jump right into it to pre-order a unit, you may want to check out the demo video available after a few more awesome product images.
