love arcade games? then we bet you are going to love the R-Kaid-R Portable Arcade Gaming Device by Love Hulten. as with Love Hulten’s previous works, the R-Kaid-R is clad in an evergreen retro wooden enclosure and comes complete with the mandatory arcade machine-defining joystick and control buttons. on the spec-sheet, it has an 8-inch display with a decent 800 x 600 resolution at 4:3 AR and it will let you enjoy a huge library of games on popular (retro) platforms like MAME, Neo Geo, PC Engine/Turbo Grafx 16, Playstation 1, Atari 2600, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Master System and more. though the display is a flatscreen, the frame surrounding it was intentionally design to mimic the old CRT display with bulging sides.
the display also features an integrated speaker grill and a knob, presumably for adjusting volume (or screen brightness?) further adds to the portable arcade’s retro flair. there is also built-in USB connectivity that allows you to add new game files to the rig and an SD card slot for additional storage. the whole setup looks like a jewel box, or a music box if you will, and is kept closed with brushed metal hardware, secured by a stick-with-knob that unscrews to double as the arcade joystick. if this device puts a smile on your face, then you’d be glad to know that it is something your money can buy, but as you might have guessed, it does come with a pretty hefty price tag. expect it to set you back at a cool €2,499, or about 3,410 in American greenbacks.
