Casio’s new EDIFICE TOM’S 50th Anniversary Edition EFS-S641TMS is not your average watch. In fact, calling it just a watch feels a bit like calling a race car just a car. This timepiece is more like strapping the legendary TOM’S KP47 Starlet race car to your wrist, minus the fuel bill.
Celebrating TOM’S 50 years of making things go very fast, this EDIFICE collaboration is drenched in racing nostalgia. First off, it takes its color scheme straight from the KP47 Starlet’s racing days, with white, red, and green popping up on the dial and leather band loop, like you just drove it off the track. Even the metal band loop has a tapered design and holes that mimic the car’s side mirrors, which, let’s face it, is probably the most attention side mirrors have ever gotten.
The inset dials? They’re not just there to look pretty. They’re inspired by TOM’S iconic Igeta wheels, with spokes in the shape of a sharp hashtag, allowing light to flow through and power the watch, because racing doesn’t wait for batteries. The honeycomb pattern at 3 o’clock, with its layered design and subtle purple hue, is a nod to the KP47’s front grille and engine cylinder head cover. If you ever needed a reason to squint at your wrist and think of the roar of engines, here it is.
The slim and comfy watch features a carbon/stainless steel construction with a black ion-plated bezel, topped with a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, and paired with a genuine leather band. Beyond the go-fast look lent to it by TOM’s, the Casio EDIFICE TOM’S 50th Anniversary Edition EFS-S641TMS is very much the EDIFICE SOSPENSIONE you have come to know and love. This means it boasts features like solar power to supplement the battery life, battery level indicator, Stopwatch, date display, and 100-meter (330 feet) water resistance.
It’s more than a tribute. It’s a promise that TOM’S racing legacy is nowhere near the finish line. The EFS-S641TMS is available for purchase at select retailers for US$300.
