Casio has done something slightly unexpected with the classic square G-Shock: it gave it a cloth band. The new DW-5600MNC collection keeps the iconic DW-5600 shape intact but swaps the usual resin strap for a mixed-material cloth-style band, which kind of softens the rugged looks for a streetwear appeal.
The band is a stretchable polyester band designed to expand up to 2.7 times its original size for a flexible, adaptive fit. The band is paired with a FIDLOCK buckle system, developed by the German manufacturer known for its patented magnetic-mechanical fasteners.
The collection also goes heavy on neon city aesthetics with bright electric accents inspired by nightlife and illuminated urban scenes. Thankfully, beneath the flashy styling, it is still the same “smack it against a wall and keep walking” G-Shock everyone knows. You still get shock resistance, 200 m (656 ft) water resistance, and the legendary square design that has survived decades of daily abuse.
Other G-SHOCK technology includes a 1/100-second stopwatch, a countdown timer, a multi-function alarm, a Super Illuminator LED backlight, and 12- and 24-hour time formats.
The G-Shock DW5600MNC-1, DW5600MNC7A8, and DW5600MNC8A2 are now available for US$165.
