Celebrating what would have been 80-year-old birthday of the martial legend, Bruce Lee, Casio has announced that it has collaborated with Bruce Lee (and by ‘Bruce Lee’ we assume it to be Bruce Lee Family) to release the Casio G-Shock x Bruce Lee MR-G Watch (reference: MRG-G2000BL-9A).
The MRG-G2000BL-9A arrives with a yellow, Dura Soft Fluoro-Rubber Band – a color that is closely associated with the legend’s iconic jumpsuit he wore in the movie Game of Death, a movie which he did not complete filming due to his untimely death and released posthumously.
Strange that Casio never included a black stripe to make the strap representative of the now famous jumpsuit. Instead, Casio chose to go with the colors black and yellow on the case and the band as a nod to the tracksuit.
The colors yellow and red, which are on the emblem of Jeet Kune Do, Bruce Lee’s blend of martial art, can be found on the indices as well as the MR-G logo and second-hand, respectively.
Homage to the legend’s blend of martial art continues on the bezel with the phrase “using no way as a way, having no limitation as limitation” in Chinese engraved on it. The symbol of Jeet Kune Do, along with the same phrase, can be found engraved around the back, on the case back.
Finally, on the dial face, at 3 o’clock position, is decorated with Bruce Lee’s signature, a Chinese character that translates to ‘dragon’.
As this limited-edition timepiece is based on the MRG-G2000, it also boasts time adjustment capabilities using radio wave time-calibration signals, GPS satellite signals, and Bluetooth for accurate time keeping.
The watch further touts sapphire glass crystal, DLC-coated bezel, and deep-layer hardening process titanium case and bezel, plus you get the usual MR-G features like shock and magnetic resistance, water resistance (up to 200 meters or 660 feet), airplane mode, solar charging, super illuminator LED light, world time for 39 time zones, daily alarm, full auto calendar, 1/1 sec. stopwatch and countdown timer.
Limited to just 300 pieces worldwide, the Casio G-Shock MRG-G2000BL-9A watch will sell for a grand $4,000 when it becomes available in April. You can find it at select jewelers as well as the G-Shock Soho Store.
