G-Shock fans and/or collectors who are fond of nature will be thrilled with Casio’s latest collaboration with the Charles Darwin Foundation. Casio has introduced the GW-B5600CD series in collaboration with the Charles Darwin Foundation known for environmental conservation in the Galapagos Islands. This collaboration marks the second partnership between “G-SHOCK” and the foundation since 1999.
All told there are three models in the series, each featuring the silhouettes of wildlife inhabiting the Galapagos Islands and the rich natural surroundings as the theme. This subtle but unique image can be found on the dial face. The silhouettes of these creatures can also be seen on the digital display when the backlight is activated.
The three models are GW-B5600CD-1A2 which features a hammerhead shark and the ocean, the GW-B5600CD-1A3 which boasts Darwin’s finch and the Skarlesia forest, while the majestic Galapagos tortoise takes centrestage on GW-B5600CD-9 against a rocky terrain.
Around the back, the case back is engraved with the Charles Darwin Foundation’s logo and its name in Spanish. Additionally, the band carries a special message in Spanish that translates to “I support. the conversation of the Galapagos.” before finishing off with a silhouette of the animal on the watch band keeper.
Finally, complementing its conservation efforts is the use of biomass plastic in their bezels and bands. It is not known when the Casio G-Shock x Charles Darwin Foundation GW-B5600CD Watch will be available stateside and for how much. But we do know that they will hit the market in Japan on December 8, 2023, for 26,400 yen (tax included) (about US$175).
